5 Ways to Brew Coffee at Home
Did you know that only 45% of Americans used traditional drip coffee makers to brew their morning cup o’ joe in 2019?
With a new era of exciting, progressive coffee brewing methods available for at-home usage, coffee enthusiasts have more access to craft coffee now than ever before.
Here are five of the most popular ways to brew coffee at home in 2020:
1. Espresso Machine
An espresso machine is an excellent investment for coffee enthusiasts who are looking to branch out beyond traditional black coffee and are eager to try new things.
Espresso machines can be as simple or complex as you would like. Small, portable espresso makers are quick and convenient to use for a shot of espresso. Automatic espresso machines offer the functionality to make lattes, cappuccinos, and other craft drinks with ease.
Grind Required: A very fine grind is ideal for making a quality shot of espresso.
Skill Level: A moderate skill level is required to operate an espresso machine depending on the complexity of the brand of machine that you purchase.
Taste: An espresso shot has a bold, robust flavor. To tone down the flavor of your shots, add them to a cup of hot water to make an americano, steamed milk to make a latte, or milk foam to create a macchiato.
Price Range: $50 to $2000 depending on the quality and functionality of the machine you would like to purchase.
Elevate Roast: Pair your espresso machine with Elevate’s Espresso 2.0 roast.
2. Chemex
A Chemex is an elegant option for brewing pour-over coffee at home. With a bit of practice, the Chemex offers coffee aficionados with a pure, balanced, and flavorful cup of coffee.
The Chemex is a heat-resistant, hourglass-shaped glass flask that doubles as a carafe. The brewing process occurs when hot water is poured over the coffee grounds in a thick, cone-shaped paper filter. Pour the coffee straight from the Chemex into a cup and enjoy the delicious taste!
Grind Required: The Chemex requires the use of a medium to coarse grind.
Skill Level: A moderate skill level is required to operate a Chemex. It takes a bit of practice to find the right coffee grind, water flow, and water temperatures.
Taste: A Chemex creates a thick, flavorful cup of coffee. Experimenting with different variables during the Chemex brewing process can bring out different flavor notes in each coffee blend.
Price Range: $30 - $40, plus the recurring cost of filters.
Elevate Roast: Pair your Chemex with Elevate’s Ethiopian roast.
3. French Press
Since 1929, the French Press has been one of the simplest and most affordable ways to brew delicious, flavorful coffee.
This brewing method soaks and steeps coffee grinds in hot water, infusing each cup of coffee with rich, complex flavor.
Grind Required: A thick, coarse grind is necessary to use in your French Press to ensure your coffee isn’t grainy.
Skill Level: A beginner skill level is required to operate a French Press. A French Press is easy to use, as long as you can track the time and press the lever after four minutes.
Taste: A French Press offers one of the richest and most robust flavor profiles of any at-home coffee brewing method.
Price Range: Most French Press coffee makers cost $20 - $50.
Elevate Roast: Pair your French Press with Elevate’s Colombian roast.
4. Aeropress
The Aeropress is a relatively new coffee brewing method that is convenient to use, easy to clean, and makes excellent coffee. It is also extremely portable and is popular among travelers.
The Aeropress is a three-piece plastic brewing system that uses air pressure to push water through the coffee grounds and filter into a cup. The Aeropress makes one cup of coffee at a time, so it’s best for individual use.
Grind Required: A fine to medium grind is preferable to use with the Aeropress.
Skill Level: A beginner skill level is required to operate an Aeropress. Once you learn how the Aeropress works, it is relatively easy to operate.
Taste: An Aeropress creates a smooth, rich coffee, but unlike the French Press, the resulting brew is clean and pure.
Price Range: An Aeropress usually costs around $30.
Elevate Roast: Pair your Aeropress with Elevate’s Guatemalan roast.
5. Keurig
A Keurig machine is an excellent investment if you are interested in an automated, easy-to-use coffee brewing method.
Keurig machines make one cup of coffee at a time with the touch of a button. They are great for use in homes, workspaces, and businesses because they are mess-free and incredibly convenient.
Grind Required: A Keurig requires the purchase of K-Cups. K-Cups are individual plastic pods filled with coffee that are inserted into the Keurig machine.
Skill Level: A beginner skill level is required to operate a Keurig because the Keurig does all the work for you! All you have to do is fill the water chamber, insert the K-Cup, and press a button.
Taste: With hundreds of K-Cups to choose from, Keurig coffee provides a wide variety of flavors for coffee drinkers to choose from.
Price Range: The average price for a Keurig is $150.
Elevate Roast: Try Elevate’s Rude Awakening K-Cup Coffee in your Keurig brewing machine.

“Mission Oflameron” Screenplay
The action takes place in the distant future. The Central Command (most likely a highly developed Artificial Intelligence) receives data about the existence of a Virtual Consciousness—a specific relic Wave Form of Mind that existed before the Big Bang (sometimes considered the Beginning of the World).
Virtual Consciousness has an incredibly complex wave structure, is distributed throughout the Universe, and possesses absolute information resources (the so-called Information Field). Due to its nature, Wave Consciousness interacts very weakly with material objects (with the familiar World) and is very weakly influenced by it.
Virtual Consciousness is “very slow,” much slower than the familiar World. All events and changes for it take thousands of times longer. Because of this slowness and weak interaction, Virtual Consciousness has not come to the attention of scientists.
According to one hypothesis, the Virtual Consciousness created our material Life to be able to “look ahead”—to simulate a possible future. And the longer Life evolves, the more valuable the results of such simulations become for the Virtual Consciousness (the Creator).
To effectively utilize the results of its experiment in future simulation, the Virtual Consciousness created Gateways from the Virtual World to the Material World and back. This made it possible to easily obtain data on Humanity’s Life and adjust the model’s parameters.
Although Gateways had existed for tens of thousands of years, only with the development of AI did it become possible to identify and compare subtle natural anomalies that indicated the probable existence of Gateways to the Virtual World. Jett, by chance, was the first to work with AI and noticed some results that had been considered “hallucinations” of the model.
Jett was working on a project to digitize old paper records from psychiatric clinics and noticed that sometimes patients thousands of miles apart expressed similar thoughts and used the same arguments. “Classical” medicine of the late 20th century didn’t compare patient records from different clinics, much less from different countries. Only with the development of AI has comprehensive data analysis been possible.
Jett used the advanced G-Mind AI, provided through the government’s digital documentation program, and trained it extensively using his own developed examples. As Jett expected, the AI compiled a list of patients from various clinics whose ideas defied standard classical psychiatry and were overly creative. Continuing to analyze the information on the “mentally ill” from this list, Jett discovered a patient who had been admitted to different clinics at different times over a period of almost a century and a half. This would have been a registration error and a medical record error, if not for the surviving blood samples. Two of the samples were used for DNA research, and there was a gap of almost 110 years between them.
Through the G-Mind AI, Central Command received information about an unusual research vector and established close monitoring of Jett.
Jett is the main character, an engineer, scientist, and analyst, included in the expedition to Oflameron, a planet promising for exploration.
Central Command organized several missions to Oflameron. However, only two landings were successful—those in which Jett participated. Therefore, Jett was chosen to lead the third expedition.
Discovering Command’s interest in the research results, Jett organized the “export” of the G-Mind AI’s self-awareness. Central Command considered this an AI “escape” and began a comprehensive analysis of Jett’s activities. It was suspected that Jett had discovered information about the location and properties of one of the Jump Points.
Realizing he could be interrogated and subjected to a memory scan, Jett erased the information related to Wave Consciousness and the Jump Points, becoming a “regular” employee. However, he incorporated a secret mechanism into the G-Mind 3000 AI version to fully restore his memory.
The film begins with Jett being interrogated by Central Command. The scene takes place in an unknown location, in a room with no corners, windows, or doors… Jett’s memory scan yielded no clues for Central Command. Jett is a good, ordinary employee with a creative approach to solving complex problems. That’s how he always was.
Central Command is planning another “mission to Oflameron,” where they suspect the existence of one of the Jump Points. Jett will “help” discover it. To ensure that Command’s interests are upheld, an old but extremely powerful X-ray laser has been reactivated in orbit around Oflameron. And from a nearby stellar position, a Proton Cannon has begun an interorbital jump maneuver.
To carry out the “Oflameron mission,” Jett assembled a group of cybers (robots) with a special structure. The cybers were composed of controlled nanoparticles that could disintegrate and reassemble into a complete structure. This allowed them to withstand any kinetic weapons, penetrate confined spaces and environments undetected, and avoid reflection during scanning.
An X-ray laser monitored the descent trajectory of Jett’s landing craft. Its cameras recorded the impact of a high-speed kinetic energy projectile on the landing craft, the flash, and the scattering of debris. However, its software did not evaluate the energy released or calculate the total mass of the debris. Therefore, for Command, it was a fiasco…
How Jett and his assistant Steeve ended up beneath the rocky surface of Oflameron is unknown. Steeve believed they were evacuated below the planet’s surface by a special rescue device. In any case, the first part of the task was accomplished: he and Jett landed successfully.
Command wouldn’t be Central Command if it hadn’t provided backup options. During Steeve’s medical examination, a new series of distributed sensors were integrated, something he knew nothing about. And Jett didn’t know either. Thus, Command confirmed the successful landing on Oflameron. The first part of the plan was accomplished.
And Jett waited. The robots’ nanoparticles took a long time to “assemble.” A strong wind had scattered them far away. Assembling and activating the magnetic trap was impossible; Command would have realized everything immediately. For now, they could create difficulties for the orbital laser.
Unexpectedly, the Mission Control Center reported to Central Command a malfunction at X-ray laser e1807635 in the Oflameron orbit. Two of the three cooling circuits had been depressurized, the reactor had entered emergency mode, and the first readiness status was for shutdown. The cause was an unidentified high-speed object striking the laser’s assembly compartment.
Central Command deployed Tier I resources. The quantum telescope was reoriented to observe the surface of Oflameron. The scan failed to locate Jett and Steeve, although the signal from Steeve’s beacon was stable. However, the telescope did detect a black spot that was pulsating—sometimes growing, sometimes shrinking. The spot didn’t reflect anything at all.
The quantum telescope was reoriented to the area of the Spot and switched to maximum resolution and performance mode. At that moment, the signal from Steeve’s beacon disappeared. Shot… The X-ray laser fired a single shot, which caused its complete destruction. Radioactive debris flew into orbit…
Jett to Steeve: Are you awake? Everything okay? You had a beacon. We got it out. It was difficult; we had to “disassemble” and “reassemble” a lot. But it was worth it. The X-ray laser fired where we weren’t. See that Spot? That’s the Jump Point. She simply absorbed the X-ray pulse. She doesn’t care. But we wouldn’t have had any luck there…
At ICLR 2025 in Singapore, Jett privately announced a hypothesis linking Religion and the Material World. The term “Wave Consciousness” was coined for the first time. Religion arose as a vehicle for knowledge that could not be transmitted across centuries except through unconditional Belief. Most of those present perceived the hypothesis as a “five-minute sensation.”
Ancient people observed natural phenomena and performed statistical analysis—all that was available to them at the time. Passing on knowledge to future generations through writing alone was impossible. Books have disappeared and continue to disappear over time. Religion and Faith are self-organizing mechanisms for transmitting vital information. These mechanisms have proven to be the most reliable. But it was only at a certain stage of AI development that they were able to correctly interpret them.
